Our Building Process?
Planning
The first step in any construction project is planning. Proper planning will ensure the design and construction stages move forward smoothly and the customer ends up with a product they are happy with.
Design
In order for us to provide you with a quote for the logwork we require an accurate plan. You may want to draft your own concept or sit down with a designer and have them produce a plan for you. Choosing a design company that has experience in handcrafted log homes is recommended. If such a company is not available locally you may wish to visit the International Log Building Association website for a list of designers that specialize in handcrafted log homes.
Deposit
A 1/3 deposit is required before construction can begin. We typically build one log shell at a time. The log shells are constructed in the order that we have received the deposit. Planning well in advance is important if you wish to have your shell delivered at a specific time.
Construction
We specialize in log construction. We do not build complete homes, we build the log shell. The log shell is all the components of a home that are made from log. The timeframe for the construction phase depends on the size and complexity of the log shell.
Delivery
A completed log shell has all its components tagged and numbered. It is then disassembled and loaded for delivery.
Assembly
The log shell is reassembled on your foundation. The site around the foundation must have enough space to allow the crane to reach the loaded trailer and foundation. For customers in the Whitehorse area we can arrange a mobile crane service. Out of town customers will be responsible for arranging a mobile crane. Reassembly for most log shells takes 1-2 days. Larger and more complex designs may take several days.
Finishing
Finishing the log shell can begin when reassembly is complete. You may wish to do the finishing yourself or hire a contractor. If you decide to finish through a contractor you should make arrangements well in advance to ensure trades people are available to finish your home.
